Perfect Words For Today

August 11, 2011

Dear, DEAR friends,

Below is another devotioinal from my favorite devotional writer, Henry Blackaby. I have sent to many of you his daily devotionals in the last few weeks. As you read this, I ask you…Can God’s timing be any more perfect?

Pleasing God, Pleasing Others
Daily Devotional for Thursday, August 11th, 2011

For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ. Galatians 1:10

At times you will have to make a choice between pleasing God and pleasing those around you, for God’s ways are not man’s ways (Isa. 55:8-9). As important as it is to strive for good relations with others, it is even more important to maintain a steadfast and obedient relationship with Christ. Disobeying God to keep peace with other people is never wise. Peace with God is always paramount. Jesus warned that obeying Him might cause division in your relationships (Matt. 10:35-36). If Paul’s primary goal had been to please others, he would never have become an apostle of Jesus Christ. Paul went completely against the wishes of his colleagues in order to obey Christ. At times, obedience to God sets family members at odds with each other (Matt. 10:35-36). When you follow Jesus’ Lordship, your family may misunderstand, or even oppose you, yet your obedience to God reflects your identity as His child. Jesus said that those who obey His will are His brothers and sisters (Luke 8:21). God does not intend to divide the home, but He places obedience before domestic harmony. It is important to get alone in quietness with God so that you understand what pleases Him. The world’s thinking will mislead you more easily when you are not clear about what God desires. It broke Peter’s heart to know that the opinion of a servant girl had mattered more to him than the approval of his Lord! If the desire to appease others tempts you to compromise what you know God wants you to do, learn from Peter’s mistake. Determine that you will please your Lord regardless of the opinions of others.

Isn’t our God GREAT?

He proves again how his foreknowledge works for HIS Glory in ALL things we go through. And with what we have been going through from the trials the enemy has sought to thrust upon us, isn’t God’s timing perfect to have THIS DEVOTIONAL on the very day so many of us are experiecing this very thing?

Blessings to you all.

In Christ,

Jeff D

” God does not intend to divide the home, but He places obedience before domestic harmony. ”

What happens if a home has a christian in it, and noone else is? How does harmony exist if kelly says ” light ” cant exist with ” dark”? Thats not making much sense.

Jeff, with the news stories of Ebola in your area, the concerns you’ve expressed on L.A.’s blog are (..to say the very least) totally valid and crucial. The reports continue and are not about to go away any time soon. Praying that all goes well for you and your family through all this, and may the Lord’s protection per Psalm 91 keep a strong hedge around all of you. God bless!

Good morning Linda. I apologize as I just now saw your message. I greatly thank you for your prayers as this is so literally “close to home” for me and my family. Thankfully, as I am sure you know by now, the quarantine time has passed and I can only hope and pray that they are truly “Clear”. We just don’t yet know enough about this wretched disease. I will not in the least be surprised if (When) more cases break out and I have no doubt they will.

Psalm 91 is one of my all time favorites. The Lord woke me up in the middle of the night once over 20 years ago and led me to that specific Psalm. In my still young walk with the Lord, I had not yet read Psalm 91 in its entirety if at all. The Holy spirit strongly impressed upon me that this was “My personal Psalm”. As you can imagine, I was stunned after reading it and soaking it in. So I am always grateful when others offer this particular passage for me in prayer. It is so impactful to me and I know He gave it to me for good reason.

Thank you so much Linda and may He give you His rest as we struggle in this place.

      Blessings.

      Jeff

Thank you too, Jeff, and I hope all will continue to be “clear” from Ebola. Yesterday evening I saw that N.Y. city now has a doctor with Ebola, but hopefully better containment measures are actually in place (as being claimed). God bless.
